In this episode of Vibin' with Tonza, I continued my conversation with “Power Couple” Montre and Teresa Freeman to talk about life and love. Tune in to hear what Teresa's love language is and what turns Montre on!

ABOUT THIS “POWER COUPLE”

Montre is a native of Bertie County and he is a proud product of Bertie County Schools where both his mother & father have served as educators for over 25 years. He is the oldest son of William & Rosa Freeman & he has a twin brother, twin sisters and a younger brother. Montre pursued his higher education at Elizabeth City State University where he graduated with a BS Degree in Criminal Justice in 1996. During his tenure at ECSU, Montre played football and ran track for the Mighty Vikings and also pledged the Lambda Gamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc.

Teresa is a native of Halifax County & she is a proud product of Halifax County Schools where her mother served as an educator for over 40 years. She is the youngest daughter of Leroy & Vivian Robinson of Enfield and she has an older sister Kimberley and an older brother Rickie. Teresa pursued her higher education at NC A&T State University where she graduated with a BS Degree in English Education in 1998. During her tenure at NC A&T, Teresa was a NC Teaching Fellow, Chancellor’s Scholar and also pledged the Alpha Mu Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

After college, Montre worked in various public service fields including education, corrections, probation/parole, & fatherhood initiatives and then went on to work in corporate America in Bertie and Halifax counties. When Teresa finished college, she went on to law school at NCCU for 3 years, worked as a corporate attorney in Winston-Salem for 3 years and then moved back home to Enfield in 2004 to serve as an Assistant District Attorney with the Halifax County District Attorney’s Office.

In 2005, Montre reconnected with the love of his life, they began dating, became engaged and married in November 2007.

In November of 2008, Teresa became the 1st African-American to be elected (with opposition) as a Halifax County District Court Judge. During the first 3 years of their marriage, Montre & Teresa traveled frequently and enjoyed each other’s company and then they were blessed with their first child, Maleah Ellyse in 2011. In 2013 Montre decided that he wanted to pursue a life-changing career endeavor. After exploring different options, Montre decided to go to law school at NC Central University School of Law.

During 2016/2017, while Montre was still matriculating at NCCU and living away from home in Durham, this was a life-altering time for Montre & Teresa...

July 2016 - Teresa became pregnant with their son, Kingston

November 2016 -Teresa’s Father passed away

April 29, 2017 - Kingston was born

May 2, 2017 (3 Days Later)- Teresa’s Mother passed away

May 13, 2017 - Montre graduated from NCCU with a Dual Degree - Juris Doctorate in Law and Masters in Public Administration

Currently, Montre serves as the Manager for the Town of Enfield where he has served for approximately 2 years. Teresa serves a District Court Judge for Judicial District 6 (Bertie, Halifax, Hertford & Northampton counties) and this is her 12th year serving as a Judge.

Montre and Teresa have taken the bitter with the sweet of what life has thrown their way and managed with the grace of God to keep their love for each other burning strong! They are excited about what the future holds as they continue to build a life together & cultivate their collective dreams as a family. 

November 10, 2020, will make 13 years of marriage for Montre & Teresa!
